NEW SHC Updates and Revised Return to Play Plan

Sep. 11, 2020

Message from the SHC Executive

Our Executive has been working diligently over the past few months to ensure the health and safety of all players and volunteers this season during such an unprecedented time. With the start of the Development Season upon us, we wanted to provide our members with the latest updates.

The ice is in this weekend at the MLC!  Our Sting AA tryouts and the Mustang Player Draft will begin on Saturday, September 12th. All AA tryout information is on the AA homepage. Details on this year's coaches and the player draft can be found on 2020-21 Coaches Information.

We elected Danielle Cyr as our new AA Sting Director and Member at Large. Danielle will provide Sting families with a point of contact for program information as well as to bridge communication between Sting AA and the SHC Executive. Danielle's role will also involve forming a sub committee of members from associations in our recruitment area in an effort to grow the Sting program throughout the region.

In addition, we have created a COVID-19 Resource page on the website under Info. Here you will find all of our SHC COVID Documents.

Our SHC Return to Play Plan has been revised as of September 10, 2020 to reflect the most current information available and the guidelines provided by the Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services (AHS), Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta.

Please note the following important revisions to our SHC Return to Play plan:

  • Season Starts September 21, 2020
  • Additions and updates have been made on our SHC Return to Play Details and Format.
  • Changes were made to our cohort teams in the U9 Division due to a lack of volunteer coaches and at the U18 level due to low registration numbers.
  • We have appointed Robert Potter, U18 Director, as our SHC Covid-19 Resource to provide teams with information and answer questions in relation to health and safety. His role will be to monitor COVID-19 Health Checklists through Team Snap, collect Equipment Sanitation Checklists from coaches, and ensure proper communication throughout the Association on COVID-19 protocols.
  • New information links have been added and updated under the Important Links section.
  • MLC has provided us with their Facility Guidelines, link also available at the end of the document and on the COVID Resource page on our website.

We would also like to remind our members of the need to be cautious when participating in private events or activities as we begin to move into team cohorts over the next two weeks. Players who participate in a group activity outside of their team cohort that does not follow physical distancing are required to wait 14 days before rejoining their team cohort as per AHS guidelines. Also, there will not be any additional ice available for team purchase while we are following the cohort model. This includes teams purchasing ice from a facility outside of SHC facilities (MLC or Legal Arena). As these are non-sanctioned SHC events and therefore not covered by our insurance, participants would be in violation of the cohort rules and any players and coaches will be required to wait the mandatory 14 days before rejoining an SHC cohort group.

Thank you for your support and patience while we work toward getting our players back on the ice. See you at the rink!

-SHC Executive
